If you have a question for the GeneSys team that you believe all users will benefit from knowing the answer to, please send us an email. We will publish your Question and associated Answer during the next update session.
Q: Why can I no longer use Floppy Disk Questionnaire Administration in GeneSys 3?
A: Psytech has received feedback from clients concerned about the loss of the ability to administer tests on-screen directly from a floppy disk. This facility was available in GeneSys 2 and required users to create a test file on a floppy disk and then administer from any computer without the need for the main GeneSys program to be present. This facility is not available in the same way in GeneSys 3. With the recent upgrade, it is now necessary to install GS3RQA.exe from the GeneSys installation CD onto your client’s PC. This requires that the client has a CD-ROM drive. Following installation and periodically thereafter, an unlock code needs to be generated from the main GeneSys program and input in order to run the Remote Questionnaire Administrator. There are a number of reasons whyPsytech has needed to instigate the above change to the new version of GeneSys. Primarily, the graphics contained within GeneSys 3 make it impossible to transfer the necessary files for test administration to a floppy disk, the files are simply too large for the floppy! Secondly, the new system provides an additional security measure, in that previously, it was possible for the floppy disks containing standardised tests to be misplaced or to get into wrong hands. There was potential for untrained individuals to have unlimited access to these tests, threatening their validity for Psytech, our clients and their end-users. With GeneSys 3, the requirement to enter an unlock code periodically ensures that only those who are test trained and thus have access to GeneSys can also have unlimited access to the test instruments. Therefore, although Psytech acknowledges the loss of the convenient floppy-disk administration, we are happy that remote testing is now much more aesthetically appealing and even more importantly, that it is now more secure than it has ever been. This gives us and our clients confidence in the continued reliability and validity and, therefore, utility of our psychometric tests.
